As the end of the busy season approached at my summer job, I'd been scouting more permanent employment. A process made especially stressful due to my indecision as to whether I wanted to remain in the restaurant industry or return to a more traditional work environment/schedule, etc.
A customer, Robin, at the bar where a Tribe buddy, Jeremy, bartends mentioned that the restaurant that he works at needed people. Dave, Jeremy's boyfriend, and also another close Tribe friend, called me to see if I was interested in stopping by and talking restaurant with Robin. I was. We did.
He passed on the word to management, I stopped by to drop off a resume and a trial shift was arranged for this last Friday afternoon. Unexpectedly, it turned out to be one of the busiest nights in the restaurant's history. Instead of being there for a few hours and management contacting me in a few days with the yay or nay, as initially indicated, I was asked to come aboard as a permanent, full time bartender on the spot at the end of a crazy 11 hour shift.
Not only is a great weight lifted off my mind, having the whole job search thing behind me, but the quality of product that I'm working with as well as the work environment I've now returned to are precisely the aspects that I had been missing at this summer's job. Within hours, I felt entirely in my element and I could not be more thrilled.
